Customizing the Wordpress Default Theme
Friday, July 11th, 2008
I did for a friend so I could charge any amount I like.
That was the first time I tried my hand at the wordpress.com’s template.
Besides the header, I was supposed to add an image to the right of the background.
After meddling with the CSS, I realized I couldn’t save the changes with this free account. But I could customize the header.
The footer blocks almost 50% of the color picker. The way to work around it is to add or remove your browser’s toolbar.
Another easier trick is to click the Advanced Button. The footer will then moved to the bottom covering only the bottom row of the color picker.
You also have the option of filling in your choice in hex.
This is how I did it:
- Go to Setting to remove tagline.
- Click Color Header under Design.
- Choose the color I liked for upper color
- Choose white #fff for lower color.
- Save
- Export image to PC.
- Edit image files with Fireworks MX.
- Set image(giraffe) to transparent.
- Insert additional additional giraffe and photo.
- Add in the text.
- Login to Wordpress again and go to Custom Image Header.
- Upload new header.
- That’s it.
Tried a few times to remove the ugly line above the header but not successful. May be able to if I were to spend more time on it. But no, I have spent too time on this.
If I were to do this again, I may try uploading the images to the header at Wordpress; that is if positioning of images is possible.
How much should I charge for this?
$3000 should be a fair price.
- $1000 for the time taken.
- $1000 for a job well done.
- $500 for editing the graphics and the photo.
- Another $500 for the uploading.
Kris, send the cheque over, don’t take too long.
What!? $70? Remove the header and get someone else ….
